Drake- “Fear” So Far Gone Ep

leave a comment »

What is the purpose of giving out a CD that everyone has already gotten for free? I think Drake says it the best: “Buzz so big, I could probably sell a blank disk/When my album drop, bitches will buy it for the picture
/And niggas will buy it too and claim they got it for they sis.” Here is the only track that isn’t in your So far Gone repertoire.

Could “Last Train to Paris” be the most anticipated album of the year?

leave a comment »

No. I don’t want to be a hater, but there’s no way Diddy could pull “most anticipated”; he’s been in the game too long. But it definitely could be the most talked about album. There have been two tracks that have been released from  Last Train to Paris,”Angels” and “Love Come Down”. And guess what? They’re not half bad!

“Angels” seems to be the lead single from Dirty Money (Diddy, Dawn Richards, and Kalenna) and the most different track from Diddy’s previous catalog. The word different is a bit of an understatement. In terms of Diddy and his prior music, he’s gone straight 808’s and Heartbreak, which will be the album most compared to Diddy’s.”Angels” begins with a timeless beat and a timeless verse from Diddy’s personal angel, Notorious B.I.G. Some seconds later Diddy breaks through with an auto-tuned “Came from heaven just to sing a song for you.” What happens next is an emotional song about lost love.

Below is the trailer to “Angels” and the two singles released.

Wale’s upcoming Attention Deficit

leave a comment »

Don’t pronounce his name as whale, his name Wale,as in ballet and he’s about to bring a new feel to the rap world. But doesn’t everyone say they’re going to bring something to new the game? What make Wale different from any other rapper? Well for one he’s Nigerian and number 2 he’s breaking into the mainstream. These two ideas are one in the same really. There have been many Nigerian rappers that the world has not know about but the fact that this Wale character is a first generation American is not something we see everyday. This slight cultural difference means he doesn’t necessarily have the same story as other rappers.

His story has been hailed as one of the best by GQ magazine whom they named as the best in this new “freshman” class of rappers (i.e., Drake, Kid Cudi, Wiz Khalifa, Asher Roth etc). And with his album being dropped around the same time as his competitors it’ll be interesting to see who comes on top. Here is a track from his anticipated album Attention Deficit and a review from XXL magazine.

“P.Y.T.” I-D’s September Issue (“Ethnic Casting”)

leave a comment »

I chose the words ethnic and not black because of Chanel’s Iman quote in the behind-the-scenes video. Even though, the models on the cover are viewed as “black”, I think it generalizes more than it defines the different cultures that they embody. Chanel Iman, Jourdan Dunn, Arlenis Sosa, and Sessilee Lopez all take reigns of the front page of i-D’s September Issue, which is pretty huge since the September Issue is viewed as the most important month in the fashion industry because it previews the upcoming fashion season.

Check out another pic and the behind scenes after the jump.
